Early Detection for Cancer

The sooner the cancer is detected and treated, the better an individual’s chance of making a full recovery. A person’s chance of detecting the cancer early is greatly improved if you incur regular physicals and undertake regular self examinations. A doctor will be able to diagnose the cancer early during a medical exam or a routine check up so it is important that you have regular physicals. It is particularly imperative that you schedule regular check ups if you have an increased risk of developing cancer because of certain risk factors.

There are certain steps you can take to detect cancer early even if you are not experiencing any symptoms. There are early detection examinations and tests that can save lives and reduce suffering from different types of cancers including colon, breast, prostate, cervix and skin. There are self examinations for the breast, physical examinations by a doctor or other health professional for the breast, colon, thyroid and skin, and even laboratory tests like a Pap test, prostate specific antigen blood test and mammography. The most effective strategy for early detection is to use a combination of two or more early detection strategies.
